Family portrait studies in oil on board.

Starting in October 2013 I did this series of family portrait studies. Stella was my first foray into a looser, more painterly style. It has been freeing after so much exacting illustration work.

Quick studies from Sonoma trip

I got out to paint twice on this journey. I joined an old friend at a dairy farm on Wednesday and Sunday before dinner I painted the driveway where we were staying.

Sonoma Plein aire 2014

While I was down in Sonoma county celebrating our granddaughter's birthday visiting with family and painting, this wonderful event was going down. I was impressed by the roster of artists there. I went to the "Quick Draw" event Tuesday evening and the exhibit on Saturday. Next year I hope to be part of it. Here are some shots I took:

2014 EN PLEIN AIRE

Starting in July, with the urging of Eric Bowman, I have been getting outside with my painting. I have wanted to get looser and more direct in my work and this is really helping me. Since most of my glass fusing and painting (later blog) is very technical and time consuming, this has been like a vacation. To be able to create an art piece in one sitting is so refreshing. I have been posting these on Facebook as I do them and the response has been very positive.
